Canada Visa Processing Times Improve in Early 2026
Faster Study and Visitor Visas, but Processing Still Varies by Category and Location

As of February 24, 2026, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has reported improved processing times for several temporary residence applications, including visitor visas and study permits. However, timelines continue to vary significantly depending on the type of application and the applicant’s location.

Key Processing Time Estimates (Late February 2026)

- Visitor Visas (TRV) – Outside Canada: Approximately 71 days for applicants from India.
- Study Permits: Around 4 weeks, following recent application surges.
- Work Permits – Outside Canada: Approximately 8 weeks.
- Super Visa (Parents and Grandparents): Around 210 days.
- Citizenship Applications: Approximately 14 months.
- Permanent Resident (PR) Card Renewals: Around 29 days.
- Spousal Sponsorship (Outside Canada, non-Quebec): Approximately 15 months.

Important Considerations

Processing times are based on IRCC’s 80th-percentile performance standard. This means that while many applications are processed within the published timeframe, some may take longer depending on application volume, complexity, and document completeness.

For applicants already inside Canada, visitor visa (TRV) processing is currently much faster — averaging around 14 days — although certain work permit extensions are experiencing delays.
